TALLINN (Sputnik) — Harju County Court in Estonia on Tuesday sentenced two Russian citizens who permanently reside in Estonia to prison for abetting terrorism, the court's press service said in a statement.
The Estonian Internal Security Service (KaPo) detained Ramil Khalilov and Roman Manko in Tallinn in mid-April for allegedly providing financial support to a member of the Islamic State (ISIL, or Daesh in Arabic, outlawed in Russia) jihadist group in Syria, who had previously lived in Estonia. At that time, it was not specified that the men were Russia nationals.
Both men were born in Estonia but hold Russian citizenship. Both Manko and Khalilov pleaded innocent and said they had not supported any terrorist organization.
One of the defendant's lawyers argued that Manko's detention was groundless, as no written evidence of the alleged money transfer was presented at trial.
