Chance of Brexit Rising as Public Opinion Turns Against Brussels
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the British prime minister, it is "the people, not the politicians who decide" on whether the country should leave the European Union or remain part of it.

"There will be a clear government position but it will be open to individual ministers to take a different personal position while remaining part of the government," Cameron said in his address to the House of Commons, aired on the BBC.

Cameron pledged in his campaign prior to May 2015 elections to hold a nationwide referendum on the UK's membership in the European Union by the end of 2017.

The UK prime minister has repeatedly said that being part of the European Union is beneficial to the country, but only if Brussels reviews EU-UK relations. He pledged to achieve the reforms first, and then hold the referendum.
