The cover of the new Charlie Hebdo magazine due to be released on January 6 will illustrate a bearded man in a long robe spattered with blood and a Kalashnikov behind his back, representing God, according to media.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The cover of a special edition of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo will illustrate an assailant responsible for last year's terrorist attack on its Paris headquarters.

According to BFM TV, the cover of the new edition due to be released on January 6 will illustrate a bearded man in a long robe spattered with blood and a Kalashnikov behind his back, representing God.

"A year passed, the murderer is still free," the caption to the illustration by head of the editorial board Laurent Sourisseau says.

The special edition is due to be printed in one million copies and expected to be in great demand.

On January 7, 2015, the Paris office of the magazine known for publishing controversial caricatures of religious figures, was attacked by Islamist gunmen who killed 12 people and wounded 11 after Charlie Hebdo published cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.
