Police Officer Killed in Attack at Railway Station in German Herborn

A 27-year-old man killed a police officer and seriously injured another policeman in a stabbing attack at the Herborn railway station in the German western Hesse district on Thursday, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the mittelhessen.de news website, the attack took place at about 7 a.m. local time (06:00 GMT) after a regional train conductor required police assistance with a passenger who attacked the law enforcement officers immediately upon their arrival. Police opened fire in response.

The attacker, detained by police, reportedly has a record of police assaults and drug-related offenses.

The injured police officer was hospitalized.
