MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The EU law enforcement agency Europol has carried out a major 12-day operation in key ports and airports in seven countries, during which 190 metric tons of illegal or counterfeit pesticides were discovered, the agency said in a statement on Friday.
The operation concluded in late November involved police from Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Spain and the Netherlands.
"This is another example of efficient borderless policing encouraged and supported by Europol. These huge seizures of hazardous substances, and the considerable number of investigations initiated, are the result of continuously developing cooperation between the European law enforcement community and the private sector," the statement reads.
The Europol operation was aimed at halting the illegal sale and trade of counterfeit pesticides, including infringements of intellectual property rights such as false declarations to transport dangerous goods.
