Johannes Hubner, a member of the Austrian parliament from the right-wing Freedom Party of Austria (FPO) said that there was no need for creation of a European Border and Coast Guard, because states affected the most by the migrant influx, such as Greece, had the means to control their own borders by themselves.

MOSCOW, December 16 (Sputnik), Svetlana Alexandrova – Stricter EU border protection measures could infringe on the basic rights of sovereign states, a member of the Austrian parliament from the right-wing Freedom Party of Austria (FPO) told Sputnik on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the European Commission proposed to create a European Border and Coast Guard to better protect the European Union's external borders.

"This proposition will end up with violation of basic rights of the national states. On the other hand, it will not solve any issues, it will make the EU borders more insecure and will make illegal mass immigration into Europe even easier," Johannes Hubner said.

He added that there was no need for such a move, because states affected the most by the migrant influx, such as Greece, had the means to control their own borders by themselves.

The commission's proposal came in the wake of a massive refugee crisis in Europe, as hundreds of thousands of people flee conflict-torn countries in the Middle East and North Africa in search of safety and refuge in stable and prosperous EU states.
