Skirmishes took place between migrants from Morocco and other countries who are housed at a stadium in Athens, local media reported Saturday.

ATHENS (Sputnik) – Numerous police officers are said to have been sent to the stadium to prevent the situation from escalating, Athens News Agency reported.

After breaking up clashes, law enforcers reportedly remained at the stadium.

Amid the massive migrant crisis in Europe, Greece is one of the major entry points for migrants from the Middle East and North Africa who seek refuge in the European Union.

Over 740,000 migrants have arrived by sea in Greece in 2015 alone, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
