French Prime Minister Manuel Valls on Sunday called for calm in the French capital after clashes broke out in central Paris between police and participants of a banned Climate Change march.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The climate march was scheduled for the eve of a major UN Climate Summit in Paris due to start on Monday. French authorities disallowed it over security concerns after the November 13 terror attacks.

"Violence against law enforcement at the Place de la Republique is a despicable act. To respect this place means to respect the memory of [November 13 victims]," Valls said on Twitter.

Around a hundred of climate change activists were arrested after they clashed with police at the Place de la Republique in the heart of Paris, a site of the deadly shootings that killed 130 people. Riot police responded with tear gas.
