UK Prime Minister David Cameron said he would order Britain’s Royal Air Force to target Islamic State militant group leadership in Syria, if the parliament backs his proposal to extend the UK anti-ISIL campaign to Syria, local media reported Sunday.

LONDON (Sputnik) — According to the Sunday Times newspaper, Cameron has told commanders to use precision strikes to target the head of the terrorist group’s "international attacks" unit. The unit has allegedly masterminded the Paris attacks on November 13 and has said that is now targeting the United Kingdom as well as other countries that have been conducting airstrikes on ISIL positions, the media reported.

The airstrikes, which could take place within hours of the parliamentary vote, will also include an attack on ISIL command hideouts in Syria’s Raqqa, the group's self-proclaimed capital, in a bid to destroy what Cameron calls the "snake's head" of the terrorist organization, according to the newspaper.

The United Kingdom has been conducting airstrikes on ISIL in Iraq since September 2014, as part of a US-led international coalition against the extremist group.

The UK parliament is expected to vote on extending airstrikes to Syria on Wednesday.
