BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — Security measures around the European Commission headquarters in Brussels have been strengthened due to the highest terror alert level, Belgian media reported Monday.
"The European Commission has strengthened security measures around Berlaymont [building housing the Commission's headquarters], a number of embassies have closed the door, reducing the activity of its services to a minimum," RTBF broadcaster said.
Earlier on Monday, 24 anti-terror raids took place in the Belgian cities of Brussels, Charleroi and Liegeto, aimed at detaining Salah Abdeslam, who is suspected of planning a series of assaults and suicide bombings in Paris on November 13 that killed at least 130 and injured over 360.
