WASHINGTON (Sputnik), Leandra Bernstein — The deadly terror attacks in Paris must not prevent the United States and Europe from accepting Syrian refugees, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) US Executive Director Jason Cone told Sputnik on Monday.

"We are just hoping that it [the Paris attacks] does not prevent people who are already fleeing a really horrible situation in Syria or other parts, where we’ve seen the migration, from getting access to the kind of sanctuary they need," Cone said.

French police reported over the weekend that one of the terrorists involved in Friday's terror plot in Paris was found with a Syrian passport, and likely made it to the country as part of the massive refugee outflow from Syria.

Cone insisted that the United States and European nations must work to ensure that people in need of asylum "are not denied that because of these attacks" in Paris.

On Monday, US media reported that as many as 8 US governors had taken steps to block Syrian refugees from being resettled in their states, including Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Alabama, and Texas.
