Austria Offers France Police Help After Paris Attacks – Interior Ministry

According to Interior Ministry, Austria has offered France the assistance of its police forces after a string of deadly terrorist attacks hit Paris overnight.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) Austria has offered France the assistance of its police forces after a string of deadly terrorist attacks hit Paris overnight, the Interior Ministry told Sputnik on Saturday.

"Austrian authorities are in contact with France and offered support by police intervention units if needed," Interior Ministry spokesman Karl-Heinz Grundboeck said.

A similar offer came earlier in the day from Germany. German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere reportedly said he was ready to send a GSG9 anti-terror unit to boost security in France after gun and bomb assaults killed 127 people in Paris on Friday night.

Also Interior Ministry spokesman Karl-Heinz Grundboeck stated that Austria enhanced security measures on Saturday after a series of near-simultaneous terrorist attacks in Paris killed 127 people. 

"Security measures in Austria are increased on general level, whereas actually there is no concrete information on forthcoming attacks," Interior Ministry spokesman Karl-Heinz Grundboeck said.

French President Francois Hollande announced a state of emergency in the country. The level of terror threat to neighboring Britain was put at "severe," according to Prime Minister David Cameron.
