The British government has allocated $1.5 million to Ukraine via the International Red Cross Committee and another $1.5 million for a program to employ relocated residents of eastern Ukraine.

KIEV (Sputnik) – The British government has allocated $1.5 million to Ukraine via the International Red Cross Committee and another $1.5 million for a program to employ relocated residents of eastern Ukraine, International Development Minister Desmond Swayne said Thursday.

"I am pleased to announce today a further $1.5 million to be distributed as aide by the International Committee of the Red Cross," Swayne said at the opening of a photography exhibition dedicated to relocated Donbas residents.

He said an additional $1.5 million will be allocated to support small and medium-sized enterprises, in addition to the $3 million Swayne said Britain has spent in this area previously.

The UK development minister said London’s humanitarian aid to Ukraine has amounted to the equivalent of $22.7 million so far this year.

Britain’s humanitarian aid to the conflict-torn country goes hand in hand with $3 billion in military assistance to support Ukrainian government forces that have been fighting independence militias in the Donbas since April 2014.
