Norway’s largest refugee camp has been opened on the border with Russia.

MURMANSK (Sputnik) – Norway’s largest refugee camp has been opened on the border with Russia on Wednesday, local media reported.

"Today opens the new arrival center in Finnmark. The reception will accommodate 600 asylum seekers, but health monitoring of refugees is already inadequate," Norway’s NRK broadcaster reported.

Up to 300 asylum seekers have been transferred from two camps emptied on Tuesday, with the remaining half "on the way" from the Russian-Norwegian Storskog border crossing station, the broadcaster added.

Local authorities fear the accommodation may run out of room in the near future.

Norway’s Finnmark county is estimated to see 200 daily arrivals across the Russian border, representing a tenfold surge from last year. Norwegian police estimate up to 65,000 people may arrive in the Nordic country before the end of 2015.

As Norway and Europe grapple with the biggest refugee crisis since World War II, the Norwegian parliament is expected to review a draft law on Friday, streamlining the deportation of those denied asylum, lowering stipends and complicating family reunion procedures.
