Citing numerous wounds as a reason, Right Sector leader Dmytro Yarosh stepped down, saying that he remained "a nationalist, statist and revolutionary".

KIEV (Sputnik) – Ukrainian lawmaker and head of the radical Right Sector organization Dmytro Yarosh has resigned.

“After being wounded and under long-time care, I have entrusted some of my managerial duties in the Right Sector to my closest associates…and have resigned,” Yarosh said on this Facebook account.

The Right Sector is a Ukrainian association of radical, ultra-nationalist organizations that took an active part in the anti-government protests that led to the ousting of former President Viktor Yanukovych in February 2014.

In April 2014, Kiev launched a military operation against independence supporters in Donbass, and the Right Sector took the side of the Ukrainian authorities.

In November 2014, the Russian Supreme Court recognized the Right Sector as an extremist organization and banned its activity on the Russian territory. Several months earlier, in March 2014, Russian investigators opened a criminal case against Yarosh, under two articles of the Criminal Code, namely public calls for extremism and terrorism.
