A 105-year-old Afghan woman arrived in Croatia last week en route to Sweden, the oldest person to travel to Europe in search of refuge during this year's migrant crisis.

Bibihal Uzbeki arrived at the Opatovac center for refugees on Tuesday, after 20 days of traveling.

"My legs hurt, but I'm ok," Bibihal told a doctor from the Croatian Red Cross treating her at the reception center, where she is currently recovering from the exertion of the trip under medical supervision in a heated tent of the Red Cross.

Croatian police who checked Bibihal's documents confirmed that she is 105 years old, making her the oldest person to have registered with the European authorities seeking refugee status in Europe.

According to the authorities in Croatia, 276,844 refugees and migrants have arrived in the country since mid-September.

Bibihal traveled to Europe with 17 of her relatives, who carried her some of the way.

"I'm blind and I can barely walk, but I thank all of you from my heart," Bibihal told local media, explaining that the worst part of the journey was when her family had to carry her across the mountains.

"My son and grandson carried me there on their backs, at one point we went over the mountains and I fell and hit my head," she said.

"We had to travel across sea from Turkey to Greece, we were lucky not to capsize," Bibhal's grandson told local media. "Luckily here we are in your country, and now we're going further, because in our country it's still dangerous. My older brother is already in Sweden."

"We decided that all of us should leave. We had to flee because there, where we come from, there is no life left for us, and I couldn't leave my mother," explained Bibihal's 67 year old son Muhamed.

"Our aim is go to Sweden and continue life there," he said.
