MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Over 15,000 people have signed up for a massive demonstration in Copenhagen on Thursday to protest against the Danish government’s plans to reduce spending on the country's education system by almost $1.3 billion over the next four years, according to the event's official Facebook page.
"Billion cuts will mean big losses of quality throughout the education system, institution closures and layoffs among teachers," the organizers said.
They added that the question of education spending cuts "is not about whether we can afford it, but whether politicians will prioritize resources for quality education or not."
The organizers from Education Alliance, comprising a large number of local organizations call on the city’s residents to support the cause and attend the demonstration in central Copenhagen, which is expected to begin at 4 p.m. local time (15:00 GMT).
