Ukraine as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council would return to the issue of deploying the international peacekeeping contingent to eastern Ukraine in case of Minsk agreements' failure, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said Sunday.

KIEV — He added that since Ukraine will become a non-permanent Security Council member state on January 1, 2016 it could defend its position on the issue more efficiently.

"I do not rule out that in order to stabilize the situation, especially if the Minsk deal is not implemented in accordance with the agreed schedule, we could go back to the necessity of bringing the UN peacekeepers to Ukraine," Poroshenko said.
