G7 countries and the Gulf States will allocate $ 1.8 billion to the United Nations for refugee support, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said in the framework of the G7 Outreach event in New York.

NEW YORK (Sputnik) — The funds will go to UN international organizations, such as the UN Office for Refugees and the World Food Programme, Steinmeier said.

According to the minister, Germany will support this call and will allocate 100 million euros ($110 million) for the matter. Some 12 to 15 countries are participating in the initiative, according to Steinmeier.
