UK Labour to Review Tax Policy to Lift Burden Off Poor - Shadow Chancellor

According to the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, the UK Labour Party is going to conduct a review every taxation policy in the country.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The UK Labour Party will push for the revision of all taxation policies in the country to alleviate the tax burden on the poor and the middle class, Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer John McDonnell said Monday.

"We are going to do a review of HMRC [Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs], the people who collect the taxes, we are going to review all the range of taxation policies and the whole objective is that the burden is lifted off the middle and low earners and particularly the poorest," McDonnell said, as quoted by Sky News.

His comments came ahead of the first Labour Party conference under far-leftist Jeremy Corbyn's leadership, which is taking place in the city of Brighton.

Earlier in September, McDonnell pledged that the Labour Party would not put the UK budget deficit "on the backs of the poor" and blamed Conservatives for "immoral" tax policies that are hurting low earners.

In July, UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne, a member of the UK Conservative Party, introduced a new budget plan, stipulating cuts to the welfare system, as well as measures to prevent pay increases of more that 1 percent for public sector workers, in an attempt to eliminate the budget deficit.
