The European Union will consider providing financial assistance to Ukraine for public administration reform if the Verkhovna Rada adopts the relevant law and prepares an action plan for its implementation, the head of the EU delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski said Friday.

KIEV (Sputnik) — The Law on Civil Service, which lays a foundation for the comprehensive reform of the public administration, was drafted by the Ukrainian government and adopted in the first reading by the country’s parliament in April.

"Following adoption of the Law on Civil Service and preparation of an accompanying strategy and Action plan of implementation, the EU is ready to consider financial support for this important reform," Tombinski said following Ukrainian President Poroshenko's meeting with EU Justice Commissioner Vera Jourova earlier on Friday, as cited in a press release.

According to the release, the meeting left the head of the EU delegation convinced that Poroshenko would support the Verkhovna Rada in its work on the law and its adoption in the second reading.

The adoption of the draft law is a condition for receiving assistance in programs between Ukraine and the bloc.

Ukraine increasingly relies on external financial assistance amid a deep recession and high inflation as consequences of a military conflict with independence supporters in the southeast of the country.
