“The solution to this crisis is to bring peace to the [war-torn] countries… we are waiting to other countries to come to an agreement and start to work on a peaceful solution,” Joel Millman said.
Earlier in the day, the home affairs and justice ministers of each of the bloc's 28-member states agreed to the European Commission’s proposal to resettle 120,000 refugees, currently located in Greece, Italy and other member states directly affected by the refugee crisis.
According to German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere, the adoption of the refugee relocation quota plan is only part of the solution to the European refugee crisis as the bloc should also address the root causes of the crisis.
Earlier on Tuesday, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) likewise pointed out that the refugee relocation program alone could not solve the crisis.
