ATHENS (Sputnik) — The election silence, banning any kind of political agitation and advertisement is obeyed in Greece, but the interest in the snap parliamentary elections in the country is very high, a Sputnik correspondent reported Saturday.

Greek voters will elect a new government on September 20, following the resignation of the then-Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in August, which triggered early parliamentary elections. Tsipras seeks to secure a mandate backing the unpopular austerity reforms his government agreed to in exchange for a third bailout from Greece’s international creditors.

The main TV channels and radio stations in the country have held talk-shows and discussions, aimed at explaining the technical details of the forthcoming elections, reminding the opening hours of the ballot stations and explaining the electoral procedure.

According to recent public opinion polls, most of the Greeks have already decided whom to support in Sunday elections, but there are still about 10 percent of citizens who have not decided yet.

In late August, CEO of MRB pollster Dimitris Mavros told Sputnik that overall public fury with political powers in Greece makes it impossible to predict the results of the upcoming elections.
