First clashes between law enforcement and refugees were registered in eastern Croatia, Serbian RTS TV channel reported Thursday. The violence left one migrant dead and several injured, local 24.hu television channel reported.

BELGRADE (Sputnik) — Hundreds of migrants, who had been isolated by Croatian police in a confined area, broke through police cordons after waiting in a long line to take buses to transit centers at a checkpoint on the Croatia-Serbia border.

Some refugees went to Zagreb on foot, while one group expressed its willingness to return to Serbia.

Thousands of people have arrived in the Croatian city of Tovarnik to take trains to Zagreb. The authorities have started to organize the refugees into groups and transport them by bus to their destinations.

The closure of the Serbian-Hungarian border and the penalties introduced on Tuesday by the Hungarian government for border infringements have forced thousands of migrants from Serbia to reroute through Croatia and Slovenia.
