Serbia will deploy additional police officers on its border with Hungary to prevent the attacks of the Hungarian officials from the Serbian territory if they occurred, Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said Wednesday.

German Official Bashes Hungary’s 'Unacceptable' Treatment of Migrants
BELGRADE (Sputnik) —Earlier in the day, Hungarian police used force as refugees tried to enter Hungary and to break down the fence between Hungary and Serbia. Migrants threw rocks and sticks to policemen from the Serbian side of the border and burned tires to repel border officers. Police, in turn, used tear gas and water cannons. The scuffle left dozens of both migrants and police officers injured and about 30 refugees arrested.

"The aim [of the deployment] is to prevent further attacks on the Hungarian police officers from our territory and to separate migrants from the fence and the Hungarian police in a humane and dignified way," Stefanovic said.

According to Stefanovic, Belgrade on Wednesday voiced its protest to Budapest because of usage of tear gas and water cannons against migrants in the clashes near the Serbian-Hungarian border.

“We would do everything to prevent such incidents, but we would like our Hungarian colleagues to deal with migrants in a less aggressive manner. Then the situation would be easier to control,” Stefanovic said.

Serbia is responding to the European refugee crisis by building two reception centers and plans to build more in anticipation of migrant needs during the winter, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic stated in speech at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC.

"What kind of infrastructure we are going to build regarding this migrant crisis… we are in the process of constructing a refugee reception center in Belgrade and we will build another one in Preshevo," Vucic explained.

Serbia Unwilling to Turn Into ‘Collection Center’ for Migrants
Thousands of migrants from crisis-torn states of North Africa and the Middle East gathered in the Serbian border area as the new Hungarian legislation introducing prison terms for crossing the border illegally came into force on Tuesday.

Hungary is being used as a gateway to wealthier EU states by thousands of undocumented migrants. Budapest estimates that over 190,000 migrants have illegally crossed the country’s borders so far in 2015.
