The European Commission will allocate 11 million euros ($12.3 million at current exchange rates) to Greece as emergency funding to deal with a massive influx of undocumented immigrants and refugees, local media reported Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The financial aid is allocated for additional police and coast guard, as well as services for receiving refugees, the Greek Kathimerini newspaper said.

The sum is part of a 21-million-euro financial assistance package Athens requested earlier from the European Commission, according to the newspaper.

The ministers of the Greek interim government intend to send a second request to the European Commission for the remaining amount, the newspaper added.
