The migrant crisis in Europe is the consequence of the policies of the West, with the US in particular, which have ravaged the Middle East and Africa, forcing local civilians to flee their homes, said the head of the foreign affairs committee in the State Duma Aleksei Pushkov.

"They see the roots of the problem but don’t dare to admit it. And the roots are that West, particularly the United States, undermined the regime in the Middle East, forcing residents to flee their homes," Pushkov stated during the broadcast.

"They act as if it was some kind of a natural disaster like tsunami," he added.

According to the lawmaker, by destabilizing undesirable political regimes in the countries that were "not ready for democracy and [had] very serious radical Islamist moods and organizations," the West has shot itself in the foot.

Europe is struggling to cope with a massive migration crisis, as thousands of people attempt to cross into the bloc, fleeing violence in their home countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
