OSCE Special Monitoring Mission has registered movement of military equipment in the Donbass areas controlled by Kiev.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe's (OSCE) Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) in Ukraine has registered movement of military equipment in the eastern Ukraine areas controlled by Kiev.

"In government-controlled Donetsk region, the SMM observed considerable movement of military hardware…. the SMM observed one tank (T-64) moving westwards. Near government-controlled Iskra (90km west of Donetsk) the SMM observed eight fuel trucks moving eastwards followed by an armored military truck with 12 military personnel and five IFVs (four BMP-1 and one BMP-2) on flat-beds heading west," the mission said in a daily report based on the information received as of September 8.

Across other government-controlled territories, the OSCE mission registered an infantry fighting vehicle with an anti-tank guided missile. The object was travelling west, according to the observers.

The mission also noted that 12 previously recorded towed field howitzers were missing at a Ukrainian Armed Forces heavy weapons holding area.

Earlier in the day, Ukrainian Presidential Administration spokesman Andriy Lysenko said Ukraine was considerably quiet on the eastern front for 10 days already.

Ukraine's southeast has been engulfed in a conflict since April, 2014 as Kiev launched a military operation to suppress local militia of Donbass region.

The OSCE deployed its mission in eastern Ukraine upon the request of Kiev in 2014. The observers are tasked with monitoring the situation in the region which remains tense, as both Kiev and local militias continue to accuse each other of violating the February Minsk ceasefire deal.

On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said the ceasefire in eastern Ukraine was finally being observed, however, adding that Ukraine needed to fortify its army.
