The German pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit called for another strike on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The German pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) called for another strike on Wednesday on short- and medium-haul flights, according to its press release late Monday.

The call followed on Monday’s announcement of a Tuesday strike on long-haul flights from Germany over low wages and cuts to retirement benefits.

The fresh strike will start on Tuesday night and continue till Wednesday midnight, in a bid to mount pressure on German flag-carrier Lufthansa, which VC said showed no willingness to compromise. The industrial action will affect Lufthansa’s low cost spinoff Germanwings.

VC and Lufthansa have been deadlocked for months on pay and issues related to the optimization of company’s business, which has led to job losses.

In 2014, the German airline lost around 232 million ($250 million), or almost one quarter of its operating profit, because of pilot strikes.
