MOSCOW – Over 3,300 drug poisoning deaths were registered in England and Wales in 2014, which is the highest number since 1993, the Office of National Statistics (ONS) said in a new report released Thursday.
According to the ONS, a high number of drug-related deaths was linked to drug misuse.
Drug misuse among people aged 40 to 49 had the highest mortality rates – 88.4 deaths per million population.
Remarkably, the mortality rate among males was higher than among females, 58.0 to 21.9 deaths per million population.
UK Health and Social Care Information Centre estimates that almost one in three UK adults had admitted to taking illegal drugs.
