Tony Blair could be investigated for his secret attempt to leave former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in power.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair could be investigated for his secret attempt to leave former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in power during a NATO campaign to oust the then president, The Times reported Monday.

According to UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s biography, Blair was contacted by "a key individual close to Gaddafi" during the 2011 bombing campaign led by the United Kingdom and France.

Cameron decided not to provide the then Libyan leader with any support, the newspaper added.

Libya has been in a state of turmoil since the overthrow of longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 and is now split into two rival governments.
