HSBC Technical Glitch Leaves Customers Without Payments
MOSCOW(Sputnik) — HSBC bank promised on Friday to send delayed payments to customers by Saturday morning after hundreds of thousands of people were left without cash on payday.

Earlier on Friday, HSBC experienced technical problems that prevented customers from receiving their salaries, due to be paid ahead of the bank holiday weekend, according to the bank’s statement.

In the statement, published on the HSBC's website, the bank apologized for the inconvenience caused to its customers.

“We are currently processing payments that were not credited to customers' accounts,” the statement said.

HSBC’s technical failure is the latest in a series of problems that hit Britain’s banks in the past few years. The Royal Bank of Scotland, which runs the NatWest and the Ulster Bank, was fined £50 million ($77 million) after an IT meltdown in 2012. Customers of Lloyds, TSB bank were unable to use debit cards and ATMs following computer problems in 2014.
