According to the report, children in England were unhappier with their school experience than their peers in 11 other countries, including Ethiopia and Algeria.
The report, carried out in collaboration with the University of York, found that 38 percent of children surveyed in England had been hit by a classmate in the preceeding month.
"It is deeply worrying that children in this country are so unhappy at school compared to other countries, and it is truly shocking that thousands of children are being physically and emotionally bullied, damaging their happiness," Matthew Reed, the chief executive of the Children’s Society, was quoted as saying on the charity’s website.
England was ranked 14th out of the 15 countries covered by the survey for the quality of pupils’ relations with teachers, 11th for children’s view of the content of the learning program and 12th for relationships between classmates.
