Safer in Syria: Refugees Leave Germany to Escape Anti-Migrant Violence
MOSCOW  (Sputnik) — Germany is expected to take in between 650,000 and 750,000 refugees in 2015, twice the earlier projections of 300,000, the German Handelsblatt newspaper reported on Tuesday, citing sources in the government.

The expected quantity of refugees far exceeds the previous record of 438,000 refugees arriving in Germany in 1992, according to the newspaper. Asylum-seekers mostly come to Germany from Syria, Serbia, Eritrea and Afghanistan.

EU members, particularly Germany, have been struggling with unprecedented numbers of undocumented immigrants trying to enter the union, fleeing conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa.

Germany’s federal migration office received an all-time record monthly number of 79,000 asylum applications in July.
