MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Jeremy Corbyn, a candidate in the UK Labour Party leadership race, has denied allegations that he is linked to people who hold antisemitic views, local media reported Tuesday.

On Monday, Corbyn denied accusations by the Jewish Chronicle that he is in contact with Holocaust denier Paul Eisen and has made direct donations to his charity. The Jewish Chronicle said British Jews expressed "deep foreboding at the prospect of Mr. Corbyn’s election as Labour leader," The Guardian reported.

According to the newspaper, Corbyn called the allegations "ludicrous and wrong," saying he would have avoided associating with Eisen 15 years ago if he had known at the time that the man is a Holocaust denier.

Voting in the Labour Party leadership contest began on Monday, as its previous leader, Ed Miliband, stepped down following his party's defeat in the May general election.

Corbyn, known as an anti-austerity candidate, is considered to be a front-runner in the leadership race, while Miliband announced on Monday that he is supporting Liz Kendall for the party's top position.
