According to Hancock, as cited by local media, young people between the ages of 18 and 21, who are not gainfully employed, will have to undergo an initial three-week training program designed to help them with job applications and interview techniques, when they claim out-of-work benefit.
"We are absolutely committed to ending long-term youth unemployment and building a country for workers, where nobody is defined by birth and everyone can achieve their potential," Hancock was quoted as saying by The Guardian.
The minister explained that with this policy the government sought to end the heavy reliance on welfare in the country and was ready to create 3 million apprenticeships and expand traineeships.
"A life on benefits is simply not an option, we want to end rolling welfare dependency for good," Hancock said.
In 2013, UK Prime Minister David Cameron pledged to fight unemployment in the country, proposing to ax housing benefits and jobseeker’s allowance for young people in Britain under 25 forcing them into either training, employment or education.
According to August's figures from the UK Office for National Statistics, the number of unemployed people in Britain stands at 1.85 million people, or almost 3 percent of the country's population.
