A diplomatic car owned by the US Embassy in Kiev caught on fire beside the trade union building on Khreshchatyk street, Ukrainian media reported.

On Saturday, around 7:25 PM local time, the US Embassy’s Subaru suddenly caught on fire. After igniting at the front of the car, the fire spread to the interior, damaging the front seats.

Police showed up at the scene immediately, followed by fire-fighters who arrived at around 7:30. It took the crew 5 minutes to douse the fire. Nobody was injured during the accident.

Embassy personnel arrived at the site ten minutes after the fire was doused, and confirmed that the burnt vehicle was the property of Embassy.

“I was just driving when all of a sudden the car inflamed,” the driver said.

It is still unclear what had caused the fire. Police and the Embassy are investigating.
