MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Under the party’s voting system, if no leadership hopeful wins 50 percent of the votes, the candidate who received the lowest vote drops out, and the second preferences of the ousted candidate's supporters are reallocated.
"I will be using my second and third preferences….It won’t be for Jeremy. I will be strongly urging all of those who are putting me as their first preferences to use their second and third preferences," Kendall told the Independent newspaper in an interview.
According to polls the newspaper cites, Kendall is currently in the fourth place.
The Labour leadership vote was triggered by the resignation of Labour leader Ed Miliband following his party's decisive loss in the May general elections.
Labour leadership elections will conclude September 10. The results are expected to be announced two days later.
Other candidates for Labour leadership include Andy Burnham, Shadow Secretary of State for Health, and Yvette Cooper, Shadow Home Secretary.
