'We Are Not Animals'! Calais Protesters Demand Opening of UK-France Border

A group of migrants staged protests in the northern French port of Calais asking authorities to open the France-UK border, British media reported Saturday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Channel 4 broadcaster said a small group gathered near the Eurotunnel holding signs reading "open the border" and shouting slogans "we are not animals."

A reporter with the BBC estimated that the protest, which she claims was staged to highlight deaths among migrants attempting to cross the Channel Tunnel, gathered some 300 people.

Up to 10 deaths and major traffic disruptions have been reported since June as thousands of attempts have been made to cross the Channel Tunnel into the United Kingdom.

British authorities are now considering shutting down night services to prevent further deaths among migrants, with the Eurotunnel threatening to launch a multimillion lawsuit over losses.
