EU farmers affected by the Russian food import ban will continue to receive aid from the EU, DWN reported.
The ongoing support measures are expected to be extended for the next year, a representative of the European Commission in Brussels said on Thursday, adding that the exact amount of money has yet not been defined.
"How much money the farmers will get under the extended support, we cannot say yet. Of course, it also depends on how much they are going to apply for," the spokesman stated.
However, financial assistance rates have already been fixed. The EU Commission has laid down the rates for butter and skimmed milk powder. The rate for fruits and vegetables is expected to be fixed in the first week of August.
Last year, the EU imposed economic sanctions against Russia due to its position in the Ukrainian crisis. Russia responded with import ban for many Western products and heavily hit the European agricultural sector.
