Canadian military instructors will arrive in Ukraine this fall to train its servicemen as part of a two-year mission to boost the nation’s military capability, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said Saturday.

KIEV (Sputnik) — Ukraine’s Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak was quoted as saying in the statement on the ministry’s website:

"This exercise will kick off in autumn and last two years."

Poltorak met with his Canadian counterpart Jason Kenney on Saturday to discuss a draft technical agreement on Canadian training mission in Ukraine.

According to the statement, Kiev perceives the deal with Canada as a mutually beneficial exchange since Canadian instructors "will learn the Ukrainian experience gained during the combat operations in the east of Ukraine."

Kiev has been mired in an armed conflict with anti-government forces in Ukraine’s southeastern regions since April 2014.
