Protesters in Ukraine's second-largest city of Kharkiv on Thursday blocked the access to the building of the Russian consulate, chanting anti-Russian slogans and exhibiting violent behavior, the Russian embassy in Ukraine said.

KIEV (Sputnik) — As many as 100 people attended the demonstrations in Kharkiv on the eve of Russia Day, local media reported.

"Some 100 people are holding a rally outside the Russian consulate building in Kharkiv," the embassy said in a statement.

"The protesters are rather aggressive, they have blocked the building while throwing eggs and spraying paint at the facade. Some guests leaving the building were splashed with brilliant green dye."

A Russian embassy spokesperson told RIA Novosti that protesters were starting to leave the location.
