MOSCOW (Sputnik) The Ukrainian Finance Ministry has earlier asked all holders of its sovereign Eurobonds to confirm their current ownership.

"In regard to Eurobonds bought by Russia, the Vnesheconombank, which acts as Russia's bank-agent, has notified Euroclear that the Russian Federation is the original and sole owner of these securities," Storchak told reporters.

Euroclear is a Belgium based financial services company that specializes in the settlement of securities transactions as well as the safekeeping and asset servicing of these securities.

Russia bought Ukraine's $3-billion Eurobond in December 2013 as part of a bailout program aimed at reviving the ailing Ukrainian economy while the neighboring ex-Soviet republic was still under Kremlin-backed president Viktor Yanukovych.
