French President Francois Hollande is being protected by "incompetent" guards, Le Monde reported Tuesday, citing unnamed sources from the elite presidential protection unit (GSPR).

PARIS (Sputnik) — The sources referred to Hollande’s guards, headed by chief superintendent Sophie Hatt – the first woman in France to hold this position – as incompetent.

French Presidential Guards Fed Up With Hot, Heavy, Stinky Work Conditions
They claimed that at least one of the presidential guards has drink problems, another one is mentally unstable and some are physically unfit to do their job. According to Le Monde, in April, a guard accidentally fired a gun in a restroom in the Elysee palace.

According to the newspaper’s sources, Hollande’s security is not being adequately ensured during his spontaneous walks or any other changes in his schedule. Hollande’s visit to the headquarters of the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine on the day of the January 7 terrorist attack was cited as one more example of his guards' incompetence.

Sophie Hatt was appointed to head the GSPR in May 2012 — days after Hollande assumed office.
