MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Northern Ireland's first minister, right-wing Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) leader Peter Robinson, was taken to a hospital on Monday after a suspected heart attack, a party spokesman said.

"Mr. Robinson underwent a procedure this morning and is currently recovering in the RVH," the BBC quoted the hospital press service as saying.

No other details were available as the Robinson family has requested privacy, according to the statement.

A number of UK politicians have already turned to social media to wish Robinson a speedy recovery.

Robinson, 66, has been actively involved in UK's politics since the 1970s. Since 2008, he has been heading the DUP, a key ally of the Conservative party in Parliament.
