MOSCOW (Sputnik) Political forces erecting barriers for closer ties between Russia and the European Union do not think about the future of Europe, a war hero and member of the European Parliament for the Greek Syriza party told Sputnik.

"Those who think of Europe without Russia, think wrongly. Those who neglect this fact, neglect the reality. Those who create obstacles for the unification of the Russian Federation and the European Union, actually do not think about the future of Europe,” Glezos said.

According to Glezon, who was the leader of Greek partisans in World War II, Russia is a European country, despite the fact that geographically its biggest part belongs to Asia, as its most populated territories are located in Europe.

Manolis Glezos, 92, is a Greek National Hero and politician, who received the most votes in Greece at the 2014 EU Parliament election. He formulates his main goal as to persuade the EU officials that the European Union should have common interest with Russia and thus they should have common future.
