UKIP Candidate Fired After Threatening to 'Put Bullet' in Minority Rival

A parliamentary candidate from UKIP reportedly has been suspended after being filmed threatening to "put a bullet" in a rival's head.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A parliamentary candidate from the UK Independence Party (UKIP) has been suspended after being filmed threatening to "put a bullet" in a rival's head two days ahead of the general election, according to local media.

"If this lad turns up to be our Prime Minister I will personally put a bullet in him. That's how strong I feel about it," UKIP's Robert Blay was filmed as saying by the Daily Mirror, referring to Ranil Jayawardena.

Jayawardena, a Conservative Party candidate in southern England's constituency of North East Hampshire, is touted as potentially Britain's first prime minister of Asian descent.

Blay, a 55-year-old former bank accountant, compared his "400 years of ancestry" to Jayawardena's "family [who] have only been here since the 70s" as "not British enough to be in our parliament."

The UKIP candidate's candid remarks prompted a swift suspension with immediate effect, a UKIP spokesman was cited as saying by the daily.

The anti-European Union and anti-immigration party member's comments were filmed by the outlet's correspondent on the sidelines of a public gathering with UKIP leader Nigel Farage on Saturday.

Thursday's nationwide election leaves nearly all 650 House of Commons seats up for grabs as neither of the British parties are projected to win over one-third of the votes, leaving open the likelihood of a hung parliament.

According to the latest BBC poll tracker data, UKIP is projected to win 14 percent of the vote in the upcoming election.
