The broadcasting of Russian television channels in Ukraine, which were blocked some time ago, might be replaced with erotic channels instead. This announcement was made by the head of the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine, Yuriy Artemenko, at a briefing.

According to Artemenko, recently a number of channels with erotic content approached the National Council asking to permit transmission of their content. Currently, the lawyers of the council are ‘studying’ the content and deliberating on the possibility of streaming erotica to the Ukrainian public.

“Presently, our lawyers are studying the content and monitoring these channels. We understand the difficultly of such a business endeavor, replacing forbidden Russian channels with new channels — this requires extra money," he said, media reports.

When the erotica hits Ukrainian TV, it will be aired late at night, or the channels that are broadcasting it will be encoded. This represents a policy shift; in 2009 Ukraine took steps to ban pornography altogether.

Earlier it was reported that the Ukrainian National Council is interested in considering offers from four erotic channels: Playboy, XXL, Russian Night and EroxHD.

According to the National Council, Ukraine has limited the broadcast of 18 Russian TV channels. The country has suspended the broadcasting of ‘First Channel’, ‘RTR-Planet’, ‘Russia 24’ and ‘NTV-Mir’.

The National Council filed a lawsuit for the ban of the Russian channel ‘TVC’ and appealed to the Prosecutor General to take action against ‘LifeNews’ and ‘REN-TV’.

Considering the fact that a large number of Russian channels have been blocked by the Ukrainian government, the council is seeking to strike a deal with adult channels to fill in the empty space.
