KIEV, April 15 (Sputnik) – Kiev was able to save $3.4 billion by not paying Russia’s gas giant Gazprom for fuel deliveries in 2014, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said Wednesday.
“Last year we saved $3.4 billion by not paying Russia’s Gazprom the amount that Gazprom thought it would get according to its contract,” Yatsenyuk said.
Ukraine paid Gazprom $30 million for April supplies. However, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said in March that Ukraine's state-run energy major Naftogaz still owed its Russian counterpart Gazprom $3.4 billion for last year's gas deliveries and nonpayment penalties.
