UK Conservative Party Claims to Cut UK Deficit in Half Over Last Five Years
MOSCOW (Sputnik) General elections for 650 members of the United Kingdom's House of Commons are scheduled for May 7. Poll trackers suggest a tight race between the incumbent Conservatives and the Labour party, with the Eurosceptic United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) in a distant third place.

"We have a plan for every stage of your life… The next Conservative Government will secure a better future for you, your family and Britain," the Tory manifesto reads.

Party leader and sitting Prime Minister David Cameron, speaking at the manifesto launch in Swindon, positioned the Conservatives as "the party of working people" and promised to provide a "good life" to the British.

Among other pledges, Cameron promised to build on his government's existing achievements and offered round-the-clock healthcare, a tax-free minimum wage, free 30-hour-a-week childcare for working parents, and higher pensions.

Critics charged early that a Tory "plan for every stage" manifesto resembles Chinese Communist ideology and the practices of Big Brother, from George Orwell's seminal book 1984.

In addition to pledging stronger security and a better economy under Tory leadership, Cameron reiterated his earlier promise to hold a nationwide referendum on the country's membership in the European Union.
